China's Spreadtrum to Supply Mobile Phone Chipsets for Samsung

Spreadtrum Communications, a Chinese provider of wireless communications solutions, has been selected by Korea's Samsung as a new mobile phone chipset supplier, according to a press release by Spreadtrum on March 26. Spreadtrum said that it has begun volume shipment of its QS520 GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) /GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and QS1001 EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) transceiver chips, featuring integrated quad-band GSM/GPRS and EDGE RF transceivers and temperature sensors, to Samsung. The two transceiver chips will be used in Samsung's mobile phone models for the international market, according to the press release.
